Fear at the Magic Test

Fear at the Magic Test
A dangerous discovery anticipated
Theo fears that the magical test will reveal the Demon King’s power inside him and lead to his death. Malthios is powerful, but Theo knows that the people in the hall would not separate host from enemy.
A second gift offers cover
The orb reveals Theo’s own healing magic, allowing the court to interpret the brilliance as a rare human ability. The result gives him a public identity that conceals the more dangerous truth.
The test therefore makes Theo both visible and hidden at once. His gift secures a place in society while increasing the stakes if anyone discovers what else his body contains.
A Mask Maintained for Years

A Mask Maintained for Years
Ordinary life under concealment
Theo builds a shop, treats villagers, and avoids the Hero’s party because he believes they will recognize Malthios within him. His privacy is a daily practice, shaped by fear rather than a wish to deceive for advantage.
The cost of keeping distance
He struggles to let friends close, even as Imani, Dale, Nib, and Amaya show that the village accepts him. Every connection seems to increase what he could lose if his identity is exposed.
The secret protects Theo from immediate persecution but also limits his ability to trust. Concealment becomes a source of isolation even before anyone knows the truth.
A Pig Names the Secret

A Pig Names the Secret
Detection without accusation
Cargo senses the demon within Theo and identifies him as Malthios’s host. Theo freezes, expecting the familiar fear and rejection that have governed his life.
Character comes before category
Cargo explains that he has not told the party because Theo is helping people and harming no one. His response offers Theo the unexpected relief of being known without being immediately condemned.
The discovery changes the secrecy from absolute solitude to a confidence shared with one friend. It does not remove the risks, but it proves that knowledge does not force every person to respond in the same way.
A Public Host Revealed

A Public Host Revealed
The disguise fails in battle
Theo releases Malthios’s power to break Tyraz’s barrier and save Luc. Horns and wings appear before the Hero’s party and the watching demons, exposing what Theo has hidden since childhood.
Survival leads to suspicion
After Malthios defeats Tyraz, Theo heals Luc, but the party sees the form of the enemy it has fought. Avery puts Magic-Dampening Handcuffs on Theo before the others can agree what the revelation means.
The truth is exposed at the moment of greatest sacrifice. Theo’s act of saving the party cannot prevent fear, but it gives them evidence of what he chose to do when the danger was real.

A trial becomes a public test
The court presents Theo as the host of the Demon King, and many people demand execution. The trial’s mirror allows people across Algeya, including Leafel, to witness the judgment.
The village answers the accusation
Micah and the villagers speak to Theo’s care, choices, and loyalty. Camden reminds the court that Theo had the will to restrain Malthios when no one else could.
Their testimony does not deny the danger of the shared body. It insists that Theo must be judged by his actions and that a life freely chosen carries moral weight.
